Edge profiles – the clean edge of the connection

Edge profiles form the transition between the walk-on grating and the paving. The garden-side profile creates a clean, lasting edge and keeps jointing material out of the rear-ventilated channel – the facade-side one is the decorative finishing edge to the base.

In brief

Edge profiles give the facade connection its clean edge – and make it usable even before the made-to-measure gratings arrive.

Consoles and edge profiles are stock items, usually available within a week. Once they are plugged in, the facade connection can already be finished and the paving completed – the made-to-measure gratings are measured up afterwards and follow on, without holding up the construction schedule. Sobekon® has two edge profiles: one on the garden side and one on the facade side – with quite different jobs.

Two profiles, two jobs

Garden side and facade side

Sobekon® has two edge profiles with different jobs. One is functionally essential, the other purely decorative.

Strongly recommended

Edge profile, garden side

Strongly recommended: it finishes the system cleanly and forms the lasting paving edge.

  • A clean paving edge as soon as it is clipped on – a defined transition to the outdoor area.
  • The gratings stay easy to lift out cleanly – for cleaning or for repainting the facade.
  • When the gratings are lifted, no jointing material trickles into the ventilation channel; the rear ventilation stays clear.
Optional · decorative

Edge profile, facade side

An optional, decorative element: it keeps the connection symmetrical and conceals the console lugs in front of the facade.

  • A visible, calm finish between grating and base.
  • Often used as a visual highlight in private gardens.
  • Purely optional – the connection works without it.

Alternative

Want a step on the garden side? The Randprofil Blockstufe

If you want a step right next to the channel, the garden-side edge profile is also available as a tall version – the Randprofil Blockstufe (block-step) – as an alternative to the flat edge profile. It forms the clean, straight edge of the step.

Available in 150 mm and 160 mm heights. This lets you combine the barrier-free connection at the house with a defined level change down to the garden or terrace – all from one system.

Side by side

Without and with the edge profile – the difference at the edge

Same channel, same grating: a clean, lasting paving edge makes the difference – on the garden side.

Garden-side edge – without and with the edge profile

Without edge profileSobekon grating without a garden-side edge profile – the grating edge meets the paving directly
Without the edge profile, the grating meets the paving directly. The edge is more open, and jointing material can fall into the channel when the gratings are lifted.
With edge profileSobekon grating with a garden-side edge profile – a continuous metal edge forms a clean paving finish
With the edge profile, a continuous, clean paving edge is created. The gratings stay easy to lift out at any time, without jointing material trickling into the ventilation channel.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions about edge profiles

No. We strongly recommend the garden-side edge profile – it forms a clean paving edge and keeps jointing material out of the ventilation channel. The facade-side edge profile is an optional, decorative element.

It finishes the channel cleanly on the garden side. That way the gratings can be lifted out at any time, even after paving – without grit or jointing material trickling into the rear-ventilated channel and clogging it.

It is purely decorative: it keeps the connection symmetrical and conceals the console lugs in front of the facade. In private gardens it is often used as a visual highlight – but it is not needed for the system to work.

Yes. The garden-side edge profile is also available as a tall version – the Randprofil Blockstufe (block-step) – in 150 mm and 160 mm. As an alternative to the flat profile, for when you want a step down to the garden or terrace right next to the channel. It forms the clean, straight step edge.

Stainless steel (V2A). That has a practical advantage: the edge profiles can be cut to length directly on site – with no re-galvanising, which would be necessary with hot-dip galvanised steel.

Yes. Standard consoles and edge profiles are stock items, usually available within a week. Once they are set, the facade connection can be finished – the made-to-measure gratings are measured up afterwards and follow on.
