Splash-water protection without a gravel strip

Splash-water protection is mandatory, the gravel strip is not. Which routes there are.

In short

Splash-water protection at the base can be achieved without gravel too – walkable, barrier-free and durable.

Why the base must be protected

Splashing rainwater stresses the base. The waterproofing standards assign this area to water-exposure class W4-E and require a sufficiently protected base above ground level.

The alternatives to gravel

Possible options are a water-draining surface with a fall away from the base, paving with a narrow joint or – the most maintenance-friendly – a walkable grating over a ventilated channel. The latter keeps the base dry while remaining walkable.

The Sobekon® solution

Sobekon® carries the water away in a controlled manner via the rear-ventilated channel beneath the grating. The base stays protected and the rear ventilation stays clear – without loose gravel and without a step.
